'(After) Life' photography to show in the Corner Gallery

University of Wyoming faculty member Rani Robison will display her "(After) Life: A Found Photography Exhibit" in the Boswell Hall Corner Gallery at North Idaho College from Nov. 17 to Feb. 5.

Robison will host a gallery walk of her work at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, followed by a slide lecture at 1 p.m. in the Edminster Student Union Building Driftwood Bay Room, and the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Boswell Hall Corner Gallery.

A photographer and video artist, Robison’s artwork often utilizes found imagery, focusing on the “space between” still and moving images. She has juxtaposed photography and cinema, creating fragmented narratives that remain suspended in time. More recently, she has been working with Kodachrome slides from the 1950s and 1960s made by her grandfather, a long-time resident of Twin Falls, Idaho. After combing through over 1,200 slides, she has selected, scanned, edited, and modified these images in order to celebrate an era of photography that has long since passed. In addition, she hopes to uncover the few traces of memories that remain in these artifacts.

Robison is a photographer and video artist. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon and has taught at the New England School of Photography in Boston and the University of Utah. She has exhibited her work in various galleries throughout the United States.

The Corner Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday. The gallery will be closed from Dec. 17 to Jan. 10 for Christmas Break. Admission to the gallery is free.

The exhibition is underwritten by Citizen Council for the Arts and the NIC Art Department.
