Community invited to NIC's Thanksgiving dinner

North Idaho College students are reaching out to the community and offering a traditional Thanksgiving dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Edminster Student Union Building.

“The NIC family was looking for a way to help those affected by the storm. We already had this event scheduled, but would like to specifically let those who are without power know that this dinner is here for them as well as the rest of the community. We want to spread the word,” said Heather Erikson, assistant director of Student Development and the Associated Students of North Idaho College.

This is the second year NIC has held the dinner, which is the project of NIC student government leader Jeremiah Brands.

“His passion is serving the community and he wanted an outlet for NIC to serve,” Erikson said.

The dinner served about 250 people last year and is set up to serve 500 this year. The food comes out of ASNIC’s budget with NIC Dining Services Manager Eddie Nelson negotiating discounted deal with generous food vendors.

“It’s a wonderful project that has taken on special meaning this year,” Erikson said. If you have no power and want a hot meal or just want some camaraderie, please come.”
