North Idaho College men’s basketball player Braian Angola-Rodas, a sophomore guard from Villanueva, Columbia, has been named Division I Basketball Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

“This is the first time in history that a member of the men's basketball team has been recognized as the NJCAA national Player of the Week” said NIC Athletic Director Al Williams. “This is quite an honor for Braian and the NIC men's basketball program.”

Angola-Rodas led the Cardinals to three wins at the Desert Classic in Yuma, Arizona, averaging 24 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 61 percent from the field for the tournament, including 9 of 20 from 3-point range. Angola had a season high 35 points against South Mountain College in an 85-81 opening victory, followed by a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds versus Eastern Arizona, despite playing only 22 minutes due to foul trouble. He finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds against the host Arizona Western College in an 80-64 Cardinals finale win.

NIC men’s basketball is currently 4-0 for the season and will play road games at Pierce Community College at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, and Saturday against Green River, also at 7 p.m..
