NIC to host Coeur d'Alene INN-vitational Dec. 28-30

North Idaho College will host the 8th annual Coeur d’Alene INN-vitational, sponsored by the Coeur d’Alene Inn-Best Western Plus, in Christianson Gym Dec. 28 – 30.

The eight-team format includes teams from the NJCAA, NWAC and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), with four games played the first two days, beginning Monday, Dec. 28. Invited teams include San Jose City College, Miles City College, Highline Community College, Blue Mountain Community College, Grays Harbor Community College, North Idaho All-Stars, and Fairchild Air Force Base. The visit by traditional power San Jose City College marks the first time a member from the California community college system has competed in an NIC men’s basketball tournament. Blue Mountain and Highline are also both ranked in the top 10 of the NWAC basketball polls.

This year, the Coeur d'Alene INN-vitational format has been changed from a high school tournament to a men’s college tournament. Games open at NIC on Dec. 28 with Highline College versus NIC All-Stars at 1:30 p.m., followed by San Jose City College versus Fairchild at 3:30 p.m., Blue Mountain versus Miles City at 5:30 p.m., and NIC versus Grays Harbor at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Losing teams play at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Only three games will be played on Dec. 30, with the fourth-place game at 3:30 p.m., third-place game at 5:30 p.m., and the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The NIC men’s basketball team is currently 14-0 overall (1-0 SWAC) and are ranked 13th in the NJCAA. The Cardinals feature two players in the top 20 in the nation in scoring. Sophomore Braian Angola-Rodas is second in the nation with 25.4 points per game and sophomore Brayon Blake averages 20.7 points per game.
