NIC to offer free safety training at Safety Fest

North Idaho College will offer free safety training at the eighth annual Safety Fest of the Great Northwest Feb. 17 - 19 at the Workforce Training Center in Post Falls. Registration is now open at Some classes have already filled and others are filling quickly.

This three-day, free event is an opportunity for companies to receive free safety training for their employees from the area’s best safety instructors. Safety Fest offers more than 40 classes to choose from for workers in construction, general industry, mining, agriculture and logging. Classes offered include OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, MSHA refresher, HAZWOPER refresher, Fall Protection, Forklift and Water Safety, among others.

Participants can receive industry credentials from some classes, and every participant receives a certificate of completion for every class they take. New classes are added every year, based on the needs of the community and the kinds of accidents that have occurred.

“We want to help businesses, industry professionals and the community prevent accidents through safety education,” said Colleen Hoffman, NIC Customized Training coordinator.

Safety Fest has grown from 500 registrants a year to nearly 1,000. The event is put on by companies and individuals who volunteer their time to help in the education of workers. Everything is made possible by donations, both of time and money. Sponsors include Hecla Mining, NIC, Associated Builders and Contractors and Potlatch Corp.
