NIC to host writers for Get Lit! on April 15

North Idaho College is hosting authors Shawn Vestal and Richard Fifield for a free discussion on “Humor in Fiction” at noon Friday, April 15, in Seiter Hall Room 102 on NIC’s main campus.

Two fiction writers whose work has been praised for being witty, sly, and laugh-out-loud funny will discuss what they love about humor in literature, from Shakespeare to present day. As writers, how does it function in stories or novels – does it accomplish more than simply a laugh?

Richard Fifield is the author of the new novel The Flood Girls (Simon & Schuster, February 2016). His work has appeared in Global City Review, Teacup, OutWords, and Cedilla. He has taught creative writing at The University of Montana and currently is at work on a new novel.

Shawn Vestal is the author of Daredevils, which was published this week by Penguin Press. His collection of short stories, Godforsaken Idaho, published by New Harvest in April 2013, was named the winner of the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize. He writes a column for The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, and teaches in the MFA program at EWU.
