NIC softball player signs with NCAA Division I college

North Idaho College softball player Lexi Courtney has signed a letter of commitment to play at NCAA Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.

Courtney, of Scappoose, Ore., played shortstop in 2016 and catcher in 2015 for the Cardinals. In 2016, she has a .365 batting average with 46 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, 29 RBIs and a .908 fielding percentage. In 2015, she had a .302 batting average, 26 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, 28 RBIs and a .994 fielding percentage.

Courtney was the NIC 2016 Female Academic Athlete of the Year and a 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All America scholar Athlete.

“I’m excited and nervous for my journey to the East Coast, but I’ve always dreamed of playing Division I softball and this is the perfect opportunity to play the game I love while getting an amazing education,” Courtney said.
