NIC announces first inductees into veteran honor society

Six new student veterans were recently inducted into the NIC chapter of the national honor society for student veterans “SALUTE” (Service – Academics – Leadership – Unity – Tribute – Excellence). The first inductees are Timothy Beggs, of Post Falls, Jonathan Kyriazis of Coeur d’Alene, Shawn Lounsbury of St. Maries, Matthew Ranstrom, of Liberty Lake, Robert Smith, of Coeur d’Alene, and Scott Widmayer of Coeur d’Alene.

Colorado State University administers the program, which was made possible by a grant from the ACE/Wal-Mart Foundation. Established in 2009, SALUTE is the first national honor society established for student veterans and currently serving military personnel attending 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education. Currently, there are more than 200 chapters nationwide. Student veterans with at least 12 credits of post-secondary coursework and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above are eligible to join the NIC chapter.

Interested student veterans should contact NIC Veterans Services Advisor Carl George at (208) 666-8027 or for more information on the application process. Or, visit
