Fatbeam CEO to speak at NIC Booster Luncheon

Gregory D. Green, chief executive officer of Fatbeam and former semi-professional football player, will be the guest speaker at the NIC Booster Club Luncheon at noon Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Outback Steakhouse in Coeur d’Alene.

Green’s experience in the technology industry began in 1984 when he formed Tel-West, a telecommunications provider of PBXs and competitive access, and a reseller of voice services. In 1995, Tel-West was acquired by NextLink, a Craig McCaw-owned organization (now XO Communications) and Green became president of NextLink Washington. In 1996, he was part of the senior management team that took NextLink public, raising $400,000,000 in the public markets. In 1998 after three years at the helm, Green left NextLink to begin a new venture, OneEighty Communications, a competitive telecommunications provider focusing on markets with populations less than 500,000.

Six months after starting OneEighty, Avista Corp bought majority interest in the company, renaming it Avista Communications. Green remained with the company as president and chief executive officer until 2001 when Avista Corp elected to sell off its telecom division. That same year, he acquired certain CLEC markets from Avista Communications in the Northwest and further grew top- and bottom-line metrics, later selling the markets to Eschelon Telecom and OrbiCom.

Today, Green is CEO of Fatbeam, a Northwest fiber optic network provider delivering connectivity to school districts as well as government, health care and business enterprise customers in five Western states. Fatbeam focuses on markets underserved by traditional carriers, and delivers dark and lit high-capacity 1 Gig and 10 Gig ethernet services.

The public is welcome to attend the luncheon. The NIC Booster Club meets on the second and last Tuesday of each month at noon at various locations in the community.
