The North Idaho College Alumni Association Board of Directors is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017-2018 NIC Alumni of the Year Award and Honorary Alumnus Award. These awards were created in 2001 to recognize outstanding individuals who greatly enhance NIC and/or the NIC Alumni Association through their commitment and service.

Bradley Dugdale, Tim Komberec and John Young are the recipients of the 2017-2018 Honorary Alumni of the Year Award. They are being recognized for their individual and collective service to NIC and for serving as the tri-chairs of the Building the Future campaign. Their leadership of this very successful capital campaign embodies the spirt of the Honorary Alumni of the Year Award.

Dugdale, Komberec and Young have served on the NIC Foundation Board of Directors collectively for more than 50 years. They are actively engaged in creating awareness and securing resources in support of North Idaho College. Their remarkable leadership and investment as campaign tri-chairs resulted in the largest capital campaign in NIC’s history. They passionately led more than 100 volunteers and helped raise $5 million to equip the new Parker Technical Education Center, to create an equipment replacement fund and to enhance the support of NIC students through much needed scholarships.

Dugdale, Komberec and Young dedicate countless hours and engage the greater community by tirelessly inspiring others to help NIC increase capacity to meet the growing needs of citizens and industry in our region and state. At the core of their commitment is a passion to help NIC effectively change lives through education and training and to provide scholarships to inspire students to succeed.

Jennifer Lynne Henage is the recipient of the 2017-2018 Alumni of the Year Award, posthumously. Henage’s service to North Idaho College embodies the essence of this award. She tirelessly advocated for students and her legacy of caring will forever live on through the Jennifer Henage Memorial Scholarship to support NIC students in perpetuity.

Henage earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice at NIC and a bachelor’s degree in German and political science from the University of Idaho. Henage worked at NIC for 24 years. Her work became her passion. In 1994, she began working in the Admissions Office and eventually became coordinator of Career and Technical Student Support Services.

As described by an award nominator, she “was a tireless promoter of student success. She was consistently concerned about students’ ability to pay for their education, and was never hesitant to seek out all sources of funding on behalf of Career and Technical Education students.”

Henage passed away on Dec. 29, 2016.

The award recipients will be honored at the NIC Foundation Scholarship Celebration and Alumni Award Presentation in November.
