Come to tree planting ceremony Nov. 3

Please join us in a ceremonial tree planting at noon Friday, Nov. 3 on NIC’s campus near Timber Hall at 901 River Ave. This ceremonial tree planting will put NIC one step closer to becoming a Tree Campus USA. The program is similar to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA award program, which the City of Coeur d’Alene has been recognized as for the past 33 years. The Tree Campus USA Program, sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, helps colleges and universities around the country establish sustain healthy community forests. Currently there is only one Tree Campus USA in Idaho -- Northwest Nazarene University. NIC staff members have been working diligently this past year to meet the requirements of the program. The standards for the program include having a campus tree advisory committee, having a tree care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for trees and tree care, holding an Arbor Day or tree planting observance and a service learning project. Refreshments will be provided including coffee donated by Starbucks. Tree care information will be available and there will also be prize drawings.
