NIC Board of Trustees appoints Dunlap to Zone 4

Joe Dunlap ImageThe North Idaho College Board of Trustees appointed former NIC President Joe Dunlap, of Coeur d’Alene, to Trustee Zone 4, at a special board meeting Thursday following interviews of the four eligible candidates.

Dunlap served as the college’s president from July 2012 until June 2016. Prior to NIC, Dunlap served as president of Spokane Community College.

At the NIC Board of Trustees Nov. 15 meeting, longtime trustee Judy Meyer announced her resignation effective Jan. 31, 2018. The vacant zone position calls for a resident from an area mostly to the northeast of the main campus of NIC and encompasses Hayden, Hayden Lake, Dalton Gardens and part of Coeur d’Alene. A map of the five NIC trustee zones can be found online at www.nic.edu/board.

Pursuant to Idaho Statute 33-2106, Dunlap will serve until the November 2018 election. Dunlap can run as a candidate in 2018, and if elected to the Zone 4 position, will serve a two-year term until November 2020. He will be sworn in at the regular Jan. 17 board meeting.

During his presidency, Dunlap oversaw the establishment of 17 new technical education programs as part of the total campus offering as well as several building projects including the Parker Technical Education Center and the beginning of construction on the Student Wellness and Recreation Center that opened fall 2017.
