NIC, Coeur d'Alene Tribe celebrate Nine-Point Agreement

9 point

Members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and North Idaho College supporters and employees celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Nine-Point Agreement Wednesday in the Edminster Student Union Building Ts’elusm Dining Room. Pictured is Jeanie Louie, former Coeur d’Alene tribal council member, giving the opening blessing with members of the Rose Creek Singers in the background.

The celebration featured drumming, an Honor Guard and several historians speaking on the significance of the agreement. In 1997, NIC signed the Nine Point Agreement with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe for the purpose of working together on projects of mutual benefit to both communities as well as making NIC a more welcoming and supportive environment for Native American students. In October 2009, the Nine-Point Agreement coordinators revisited each point to assure that it was current and pertinent.
