New NIC Booster Club president aims to increase membership
Linda Davis believes that with the right synergy in an organization, the sum of the whole can truly be greater than the sum of its parts.
That's why as the new president of the North Idaho College Booster Club, she plans to increase the “number of parts” by aiming to triple the 180-person membership.
Davis hopes to encourage new members to sign on during the club's annual membership drive, which kicks off in September.
“Because of the fiscal wisdom of the people in the NIC Athletics Department, it doesn't take much to make a significant difference,” Davis said. “Membership at any level could make a significant difference in the life of a student-athlete at NIC.”
The NIC Booster Club is a nonprofit organization committed to providing financial support to all intercollegiate athletic programs at NIC through various fund-raising and endowment activities for student-athlete scholarships and to benefit NIC's athletic teams. Support from Booster Club membership is vital to NIC athletics, yet people often feel like they don't have the time to become a member or utilize the membership's many benefits.
Davis understands the concern. She works in business development at North Idaho Title in Coeur d'Alene and she and her husband Robert share 10 children ages 15 to 31 as well as 11 grandchildren. She is active with her church and serves as a Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce Commodore and president of the North Kootenai Water District Board. She knows what it's like to be busy, but also knows the gratification that can come with being a part of something larger than oneself.
“I enjoy the interconnected nature of the college where no one department and no one person stands alone,” Davis said. “NIC defines the concept of community college. It really is a feel-good opportunity to be involved with the college at some level.”
Booster Club memberships range from $50 for supporting members to platinum level memberships of $5,000 or more. Packages include various levels of reserved seating, advertising opportunities and season passes, which are of significant value since there will be an admission charge for all sports in NIC's Christianson Gym this year, including men's and women's basketball, wrestling and volleyball. All Booster Club members receive a semimonthly newsletter covering Booster Club and NIC athletics news.
NIC Booster Club membership applications are available in the NIC Athletics Office, located inside Christianson Gym. Or, anyone interested in joining the Booster Club, is encouraged to attend the club's weekly lunch meetings held each Tuesday at noon at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Shore Lounge. The meeting is held at a different location on the last Tuesday of the month and typically features a guest speaker.
