NIC Shuttle Express offers a no-hassle parking option to NIC students

For the fourth year, North Idaho College will offer Shuttle Express services beginning with the start of fall semester Aug. 30 to help alleviate the parking pinch on campus. NIC will once again provide shuttle service for NIC students, employees and visitors between designated free Coeur d'Alene city parking lots and five pick up/drop off locations on NIC's campus. Round trip time is approximately 15 minutes. Designated lots include the Museum of North Idaho parking lot and the Memorial Field lot. The shuttle will pick up/drop off passengers at shuttle stop shelters in front of Edminster Student Union Building, Lee-Kildow Hall, the south entrance of Hedlund Building, the north entrance of Boswell Hall and a new Shuttle Express Station. Work began in April to convert the Robin Hood Campground to a parking lot in order to expand the college's parking capacity. All buildings were removed from the former campground except for the barbershop, which was converted into the new Shuttle Express Station. The new station will include large windows, a TV broadcasting the news, tables, chairs and three vending machines as well as historic photographs of busses and trains to adorn the walls. The Shuttle Express Station will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and an emergency phone will be located outside the building. The NIC Shuttle Express runs from 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday with no service from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The shuttle operates on the same fall schedule as NIC classes, meaning it does not operate on holidays, curriculum days, or any other day when classes are not in session. Shuttle users must have a Shuttle Express boarding pass along with an economy vehicle permit, which allows parking in shuttle lots and on exterior campus streets. General campus parking permits can also be used to park in the off-campus shuttle lots with a boarding pass. Economy permits and boarding passes are free and can be obtained from the NIC Campus Safety Office at 905 River Avenue. Shuttle service is provided by NIC in conjunction with OMNIBUS.
