NIC women's basketball signs two new recruits, two assistant coaches

North Idaho College Women's Basketball recently added two new players and two new coaches in preparation for the 2004-2005 season. Megan McIntyre, a 5-foot, 11-inch forward from Watsonia Melbourne, Australia, was selected as her team's most valuable player during the team's Australian Basketball Association championship in high school. Stephanie Jones, a 5-foot, 5-inch point guard from Gallup High School in Gallup, N.M., received second team all-state her senior year in addition to other high school honors, including first team all-district, team most valuable player and all-around best defensive and offensive player honors. In addition, NIC Head Women's Basketball Coach Chris Carlson also added two assistant coaches to his coaching staff. Assistant Coach Alison Chase worked for two years as a graduate assistant at Eastern Washington University, where she played for four years. Her senior year at EWU, Chase started every game and averaged 9.4 points a game, receiving Big Sky Conference honors. Chase graduated in 2004 with a master's degree in physical education. “I am very excited to work at North Idaho College,” Chase said. “I believe in the philosophies and dedication it takes to make this a top-caliber program.” Assistant Coach Carey Carlson will join her husband on the coaching staff of the Cardinal women's basketball team. Carey has 11 years combined coaching experience at Central Washington University, Big Bend Community College, University of Idaho and most recently at Post Falls High School where her teams won consecutive 4A Idaho state championships. Carey is entering her fourth year teaching biology at Post Falls High School and is currently working toward completing a master's degree in education. “It is exciting to be coaching with Chris again,” Carey said. “He possesses the philosophy, knowledge and dedication it takes to return North Idaho College to the top of the Scenic West Athletic Conference.”
