NIC presents annual United Way Chili Cook-Off

North Idaho College students and employees are rolling up their sleeves for the college's zaniest event of the year—NIC's United Way Chili Cook-Off. The 12th annual event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 in the Lake Coeur d'Alene Room of the Edminster Student Union Building. Visitors to the chili cook-off can enjoy a hot bowl of traditional chili and cornbread brewed up by NIC Food Services followed by a treat from the bake sale for dessert. In addition, attendees can vote for their favorite chili team with costumes and chili concoctions reflecting this year's theme, “For the Love of Books.” Current entrants include the Professional-Technical Division's “Gone with the Wind,” the Workforce Training Center's “Wizard of Oz,” Practical Nursing Students' “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” and “Alice in Wonderland” by Instructional Media Services. This year's volunteer chili cook-off judges include Kootenai County Coroner Robert West, Gail Everson of Everson's Jewelry and Wally Adams of Coeur d'Alene Tractor. Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre season tickets for the 2005 season, gift certificates to area businesses and gift baskets will be up for bids at the silent auction. The chili cook-off wraps up United We Stand Week at NIC, which included various events leading up to the annual chili cook-off as part of NIC's annual United Way fundraising campaign. All proceeds of the event benefit United Way. Admission is $5 per person or $3 for students, which includes lunch of chili and cornbread. The public is welcome to attend.
