More than 100 people attended this year's North Idaho College United Way Chili Cook-Off taste-testing chili concoctions brewed up by 12 teams. Each team dressed and decorated their station to the theme “For the Love of Books.” Participants included: Workforce Training Center's “Wizard of Oz,” Campus Safety and Support Services' “NASCAR,” Social and Behavioral Sciences Division's “M.A.S.H.,” Practical Nursing Students' “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," Instructional Media Services' “Alice in Wonderland,” Associated Students of NIC's “Pirates of the Chili Cook-Off,” Molstead Library's “Dante's Inferno," Professional-Technical Division's “Gone with the Wind,” Business Office's “Blazing Saddles,” Student Services' “The Night Before Christmas,” Maintenance Mechanics/Millwright program's “Pirates of the Cara-BEAN” and Drafting Club's “Moby Dick.” Community members and NIC officials served as judges to choose the best team by combining scores for the best chili and team presentation. This year's volunteer chili cook-off judges include Kootenai County Coroner Robert West, Gail Everson of Everson's Jewelry and Wally Adams of Coeur d'Alene Tractor. Winners of the 12th annual NIC United Way Chili Cook-Off were: The Judge's Choice award went to the Maintenance Mechanics/Millwright program's “Pirates of the Cara-BEAN.” The People's Choice Award for both best chili and best presentation went to the Practical Nursing Students' “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” The total amount of money raised at this year's event will be released at a later date.
