NIC leadership class to host reception for Art on the Edge children

Each year the students in the North Idaho College leadership development class develop their leadership skills by creating and completing a service project within the community. This year, the class decided to work with Art on the Edge, a nonprofit organization operated through St. Vincent de Paul that offers free art classes to area at-risk youth by using art as a tool for problem solving and goal setting. The students in the leadership class worked with the children in the Art on the Edge program, helping them with their art as they created tiles for a collage made from pieces of a painting by Russian artist Kasimir Malevich. The children's piece will be featured in a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 in the lobby of NIC's Boswell Hall. The reception is free and open to the public and will include refreshments. The leadership class is also raising funds for the Art on the Edge program, which is funded solely on community support. The event will include a raffle for a print donated by local wildlife photographer and NIC instructor Tim Christie and a pair of tickets to the Seattle Seahawks versus Dallas Cowboys Monday Night NFL game Dec. 6. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and will be available at the reception until 6:30 p.m. The drawing will be held at the reception and winners do not need to be present to win. To purchase tickets, call (208) 769-7807.
