|photo1|John Sarchio has been selected to direct North Idaho College's Educational Opportunity Center of Northern Idaho.

Sarchio has worked as an advisor with the Educational Opportunity Center since October 2002, when the program was initiated.

The NIC Educational Opportunity Center of Northern Idaho was established in 2002 with funds from a $950,000 TRIO grant awarded to NIC from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education. TRIO programs were initiated by Congress 40 years ago to provide free resources low-income, first-generation adults to pursue postsecondary education.

EOC's mission is to assist eligible adults in Idaho's five northernmost counties to enroll in a college degree or certification program by providing academic advising, financial aid information and career assessments.

Sarchio has a master's degree in counseling and worked mostly in private high schools as a counselor, teacher and administrator for 20 years. 

A resident of northern Idaho since 1993, Sarchio served on the Idaho State/Northwest Accreditation Advisory Committee from 1997 to 1999.

Sarchio and his wife Jan have lived in Coeur d'Alene since 2001.
