Award winners announced at NIC Booster Club auction/banquet

The North Idaho College Booster Club announced the winners of this year's Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards at its annual Spring Auction and Athletic Awards Banquet May 7 at the Eagles Lodge.
The award recipients are nominated and selected by the NIC coaching staff.
The Male Athlete of the Year Award was presented to wrestler
Justin Pearch
of Oregon City, Ore., this year's wrestling team captain and team MVP. Pearch was a four-time state placer and two-time state champion in high school. He is also a two-time All-American, Region 18 champion and runner-up, NJCAA fifth place national finisher and NJCAA national runner-up.
The Female Athlete of the Year Award was presented to two recipients: volleyball player
Kara Kiefer
of Rathdrum and women's basketball player
Jeni Boesel
of Brewster, Wash.
Kiefer, a member of the NIC Athletic Advisory Council, helped NIC's volleyball team finish third at the regional tournament in 2003 and was named to the All-Region 18 second team. She led the team to a first place regional championship and a 10th place finish at the NJCAA national tournament this year. She was named to the All-Region 18 team and was selected MVP of the Region 18A tournament.
Boesel was named to the NJCAA All-American second team in addition to receiving All-Scenic West Athletic Conference honors while leading the league in scoring and three-point shooting.
The Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award was presented to year's wrestling team captain
Derek Kipperberg
of Ollala, Wash. Kipperberg was a high school state wrestling champion. He was a runner-up in the Region 18 championship and placed third at the NJCAA national tournament last year. He won the regional title this year and placed sixth at nationals in addition to receiving honors as a two-time All-American. Kipperberg has maintained a 3.46 GPA at NIC and is majoring in engineering.
The Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award was presented to women's soccer player
Jamison Walton
of Coeur d'Alene. Walton started every game as NIC's goalkeeper, giving up an average of 1.2 goals per game and scoring four goals in the limited time she was on the field. She has maintained a 3.95 GPA while studying psychology at NIC.
The women's volleyball team was selected as Team of the Year.
NIC Booster Club member
Don Sausser
was recognized for his dedication to the organization with the Booster of the Year Award. Sausser has served as an NIC Booster Club member for more than 25 years. He can be seen in the stands of numerous NIC athletics events throughout the year and currently produces the NIC Booster Club newsletter.
