Associated Students of NIC announce student leaders for 2005-2006
Tuesday, May 10, 2005
North Idaho College student body leaders were recently elected for the 2005-2006 school year.
The Associated Students of NIC (ASNIC) represent the college's 4,519 students with an eight-member senate, which is presided over by the ASNIC president and vice president. Senators are elected in both fall and spring semesters.
A total of 456 votes were cast in the ASNIC spring election.
NIC student Josh Gittel from Coeur d'Alene and his running mate Mandolyn Duclos from Spirit Lake were recently elected ASNIC president and vice president for 2005-2006. Also elected were senators Stephanie Ambrosetti from Post Falls, Jessica Beehner from Wallace, Ryan Robinson from Twin Falls, Idaho and Shelly Page of Coeur d'Alene.
Results in the advisory vote for the ASNIC Student Recreation Center showed preliminary approval for the facility with 336 students, or 73.8 percent, in favor and 119 students opposed.
Students also were asked to vote for which of three options, varying in total size and features of the facility as well as the total amount required from student fees per semester, they favored for the Student Recreation Center. Option B, which includes a 26,000-square-foot facility that would require $100 per student fee each semester, received the highest approval rating with 151 votes. Option A, a smaller facility, received 53 votes and Option C, a 52,000-square-foot facility requiring student fees of $250 per semester, received 132 votes.
“This year was a banner year for our election with 14 students running for the six available board positions,” said Heather Erikson, 2004-2005 ASNIC president. “The high candidate participation and the advisory vote on the Student Recreation Center helped to make this year's voter turnout another record year.”
