NIC hires new recruitment specialist
Monday, June 27, 2005
|photo1|North Idaho College recently hired Sara Schmelzer as the new recruitment specialist in the NIC Admissions Office.
Schmelzer completed graduate level courses in business administration and holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Eastern Washington University. She has also earned an associate's degree from South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Wash., and has taken courses at Spokane Falls Community College.
While working toward her associate's degree at South Puget Sound Community College, Schmelzer had the opportunity to participate in the Study Abroad program in Germany and The Netherlands.
Schmelzer said she valued the opportunity presented by a community college to expand her horizons on an international level.
“I also think my experience interacting with staff and students at a community college will help me connect to the campus and community here,” said Schmelzer, who is also an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Spokane Mountaineers Board of Directors.
Schmelzer began working as the coordinator of the Study Abroad program and international recruitment for Eastern Washington University in 2002. In that role, she implemented marketing strategies and coordinated the recruitment of all study abroad students and programs.
She was able to focus on international recruitment when another employee was hired to oversee the Study Abroad program. She was then responsible for recruiting all international students through undergraduate admissions.
At NIC, Schmelzer said she looks forward to working with students and showing them how NIC can meet their needs.
“I'm looking forward to building a diversified student body at NIC,” Schmelzer said.
