Eastern Washington volleyball coach to speak at NIC Booster Club luncheon
Eastern Washington University head volleyball coach Wade Benson will be the featured speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club luncheon at noon Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Outback Steakhouse in Coeur d'Alene.
Benson is beginning his sixth season as volleyball coach at EWU. Under his direction, the Eagles have won the Big Sky Conference regular season title for the past three years.
EWU won the Big Sky Tournament title in 2001, giving the team a coveted NCAA national tournament berth. The school's first-round victory over Oregon State resulted in the highest advancement in league history.
In 2002, the EWU volleyball team posted the best-ever winning percentage in the conference's history at .935 (29-2). Benson also put Eagles volleyball on the map that year when the team ranked in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Top 25 for the first time ever, ranking as high as 15th.
In five seasons, Benson's coaching record is 111-37, a .750 winning percentage. EWU is 8-4 so far this season.
During the off-season, Benson serves as the club director and head coach of the Spokane Splash/Prime Cut Volleyball Club. Benson is also camp director of the Northern Exposure Volleyball Camp, which serves Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
The NIC Booster Club holds its regular weekly meetings Tuesdays at noon in the Coeur d'Alene Resort's Shore Lounge. The meeting is held at a different location on the last Tuesday of the month and typically features a guest speaker.
The public is welcome to attend any of the weekly meetings.
