NIC to jazz up holiday season with fall concert

The North Idaho College Jazz Ensemble will team up with the vocal group Jazz Co. to spice up the holiday season with the high-energy jazz concert “Wee Dot” Saturday, Nov. 19.
The NIC Jazz Ensemble is directed by Terry Jones and features NIC students, community members and music educators from throughout the region. The ensemble will perform Bill Stapleton’s arrangement of the John Coltrane piece “Lazy Bird,” Nat Pierce’s arrangement of “Wine and Roses” and “Come Rain or Come Shine by Harold Arlen.
The NIC Jazz Ensemble will dedicate its performance to the memories of Alex Bedini and Alan Mastros.
NIC’s jazz choir Jazz Co. comprises NIC students and singers from the community. During the concert, Jazz Co. will perform Lambert Hendricks and Ross’ version of “Centerpiece,” a blues tune by Clifford Brown called “The Blues Walk” and a song made famous by Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon.” Jazz Co. will sing an arrangement of this piece by the Director of Vocal Jazz at California State University-Sacramento Kerry Marsh.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public.
