NIC Christmas concert to feature holiday sing-along

This year’s annual holiday concert at North Idaho College Dec. 10 and 11 will include the traditional holiday songs and the sing-alongs that bring the crowd to its feet each year.

“Sounds of Christmas” will feature several holiday-themed pieces by the NIC Symphonic Band led by Terry Jones. The band will perform the Irish version of “Patapan” by Shelly Hanson, the Nutcracker’s “Waltz of the Flowers” by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky and Sean O’Loughlin’s “Jubilant Holiday,” which the Boston Symphony premiered several years ago.

The NIC Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Men’s and Women’s Ensembles and Jazz Co. will focus on holiday music from around the world during the concert. The groups will sing holiday music from Africa, Spain, France, England, Israel and the United States during the concert, including Andre Thomas’ arrangement of “African Noel,” John Rutter’s “Gloria” and Robert Sieving’s “Kling, Glockchen, Kling.”

The NIC choral groups, which are conducted by Max Mendez and accompanied by Ann Paul, will then join forces with the band for the traditional holiday sing-along of well-known Christmas carols with the audience.

“Sounds of Christmas” will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.
