Area middle schoolers take home awards from math competition

North Idaho middle school students were presented with numerous awards during the Math Counts regional competition Feb. 14 at North Idaho College.
Students from 10 middle schools throughout the region participated in Math Counts, a national program intended to increase enthusiasm for math.
The top three teams of four and the top seven individuals will advance to the state competition March 11 in Boise.
The first place team was Lakeland Junior High School. Team members included coach Debra Kimberling and students David Bjelland, Kaitlin Kimberling, Jacob Minter and Becky Williams.
The second place team was Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy. Team members included coach Tisha Putz and students Lewis Ellis, Austin Enfield, Steven Munson and Ryan Ward.
The third place team was Canfield Middle School. Team members included coach Teena Roberts and students Tevis Dryden, Alex Gunnerson, Braden Heiner and Nick Induni.
Individual winners were first place Lewis Ellis from Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, second place Braden Heiner from Canfield Middle School, third place Ryan Ward from Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, fourth place Nick Induni from Canfield Middle School, fifth place Jacob Minter from Lakeland Junior High School, sixth place Kaitlin Kimberling from Lakeland Junior High School and seventh place Forrestt Claubaugh from Post Falls Middle School.
