NIC offers free self defense class Feb. 28

Learn how to recognize and avoid danger during “Common Sense Self Defense,” a free self defense workshop, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of North Idaho College’s Edminster Student Union Building.
The workshop will be led by certified instructors from Common Sense Self Defense Northwest Greg Beeman and Susan Toulme. Beeman is a black belt in the Filipino art of Combat Arnis and a 15-year veteran law enforcement officer and police defensive tactics and firearms instructor. Toulme has been involved with Common Sense Self Defense Northwest for three years with an emphasis on women’s personal protection.
The two will teach that self defense is about security and the best approach to security is avoidance of dangerous situations. The session will focus on crime prevention as well as techniques to survive a close-range attack.
The self defense workshop is free and open to the public. Free popcorn will be provided to participants.
The workshop is sponsored by NIC Counseling Services as part of the Food for Thought series.
