NIC wrestlers earn second place at NJCAA tournament

The North Idaho College wrestling team brought home a second place award from the 2006 National Junior College Athletic Association National Championships Feb. 24 and 25 in Rochester, Minn. NIC wrestlers Josh Edmondson (184 pounds) and Jake Kallestad (285) won national titles for NIC and the team had eight All-Americans at the close of the tournament.
Edmondson won all five of his matches at the national tournament, winning a national title. After a first-round bye, Kallestad finished 4-0 for the national title.
Other NIC All-Americans, those who finish in the top eight of their weight class, included Cody Nicholson (133) in third place, Kyle Sand in fourth place, Heinrich Barnes (141) in fifth place, Tyson Hurst (157) in fifth place, Josh Erickson (165) in sixth place and Coby Jones (149) in eighth place.
The 13-time national champion wrestling team finished second for the second straight year with 131.3 points, topped only by Iowa Central Community College with 147.2 points. Other scores included William Rainey Harper College with 119.5. 4, Labette Community College with 90.5. 5, Waubonsee Community College with 79.5. 6, Western Wyoming Community College with 77.5. 7, Northwest College with 70. 8, Colby Community College with 61.5. 9, Ellsworth Community College with 51.5. 10 and Triton College with 47.5.
