NIC choir presents spring concert featuring work of Mozart

The North Idaho College Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will present their spring choral concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23 in Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium. The “Spring Choral Extravaganza” will feature the music of Mozart in celebration of his 250th birthday.
In addition to the music of Mozart, other concert highlights will include gospel songs as well as traditional Renaissance madrigals, according to NIC Choir Director Max Mendez.
“The Spring Choral Extravaganza is a wonderful way to celebrate the choral art,” Mendez said. “NIC has built a wonderful tradition of performing great choral music and this year is no exception. In celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday, the choir has prepared a sampling of this composer’s great works. Ranging from Mass movement to opera choruses to small vocal chamber pieces, the choir will explore this master’s work.”
The choirs will sing “Gloria” from Mozart’s Missa Solemnis as well as “Giovani Lieti” from Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro.
The choirs will also sing spiritual songs such as “Ain’t That Good News” by William Dawson and “Wade in the Water” by Jester Hairston.
The concert is free and open to the public.
