The North Idaho College Symphonic Band and the NIC Madrigal Singers will present “Celebrating Motherhood,” an afternoon of music for moms beginning at 2 p.m. on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 14 in Coeur d’Alene City Park.
This year’s annual Mother’s Day Concert in the Park will include the NIC Symphonic Band’s performance of the circus-themed march “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite” and the ragtime piece “Kentucky Sunrise.” The band will also perform a ‘50s flashback piece called “Solid Gold,” which includes songs such as “Tequila” and “La Bamba.”
The Mother’s Day performance will include tunes from the musical “The Music Man” and a prelude to the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre season with a medley from “The King and I.” In keeping with tradition of the annual concert, the NIC Symphonic Band will join with the NIC Madrigal Singers, who will sing several pieces of their own throughout the concert, to perform “America the Beautiful” as well as the grand finale performance of Roy Ringwald’s “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
The concert is free and open to the public. In the case of rain, the concert will be canceled.
