Cardinal women's soccer team lose nailbiter

The NIC women's soccer team lost a nailbiter Sunday to Walla Walla Community College in a hard fought 2-1 game in Walla Walla.
Walla Walla had 20 shots to NIC's 14, but the contest was tight throughout the game. The Cardinals scored when Whitney Melton hit a corner kick directly into the goal. NIC had other shots by Lisa Carter and Megan Wells go wide of the goal in the second half that could have tied it up.
NIC's Jillian McAndrews had a great game at center back with aggressive play and helped to keep the NIC defense organized.
NIC's next game is at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 in Cheney against the Eastern Washingtion University reserve team, followed by a game at 1 p.m. Sunday in Walla Walla against Whitman College.
