NIC prepares for United Way Chili Cook-Off

North Idaho College students and employees are rolling up their sleeves for the college’s zaniest event of the year—NIC’s United Way Chili Cook-Off.
The 14th annual event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of the Edminster Student Union Building.
Visitors to the chili cook-off can enjoy a hot bowl of traditional chili and cornbread brewed up by NIC Food Services and the students from the Culinary Arts program and follow it up with a treat from the bake sale for dessert.
In addition, attendees can taste-test the chili concoctions of the departmental teams that will create booths, costumes and chili recipes to the theme of “Superheroes and Heroines.”
Attendees can also vote for their favorite chili and chili team for the People’s Choice Award. Current entrants include the Workforce Training Center with James Bond and the student club Business Professionals of America with Military Heroes.
This year the silent auction will highlight the creative talents of NIC faculty, staff and students with gift baskets up for bid as well as donated services and handcrafted items such as quilts, birdhouses and art.
Admission is $5 per person or $3 for students, which includes lunch of chili and cornbread. The public is welcome to attend.
NIC employees will also participate in the Hairy Legs Contest, in which the person who raises the least amount of donations for United Way will have their legs shaved during the cook-off.
All proceeds of the cook-off coupled with a pledge card donation drive benefit United Way of Kootenai County.
