Nov. 4: No. 2-ranked Yavapai edges NIC men's soccer team 2-0

The No. 2-ranked college in the country, Yavapai College of Yuma, Ariz., scored one goal in each half Saturday to earn a 2-0 win over NIC in the NJCAA West Division Finals held at NIC's Eisenwinter Field.

Yavapai's sophomore defender Tim Kelly redirected a free kick in the ninth minute of the game and teammate Colby Swenson punched in a rebound in the 65th minute to earn Yavapai a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament Nov. 16-19 in Tyler, Texas.

Sophomore midfielder Dylan Torcoletti had NIC’s best scoring chance in the 55th minute when his point blank shot skimmed off the post and went wide.

Yavapai is now 22-0-1 for the year and will be rallying to better their No. 2 finish at the national tournament last year.

NIC ends its 2006 season at 11-4-1 as the Scenic West Athletic Conference and Region 18 Champions for the second season in a row.
