NIC volleyball team places fourth at NJCAA tournament

The North Idaho College volleyball team finished fourth in the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA) volleyball tournament held Nov. 20-22 in West Plains, Mo.

Sixteen teams from Kansas, Florida, Wyoming, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas qualified for the three-day event. In the semifinals, the Cardinals won their first two matches over Western Wyoming Community College and Hutchinson Community College of Kansas, securing NIC with its best finish at the national tournament in college history. NIC finished 10th in the nation two years ago.

At this year's tournament, the No. 4-seeded NIC went on to fall to Missouri State University-West Plains in the match for third place, therefore placing fourth.

Iowa Western, the only team in the final four that the Cardinals had not defeated before the tournament, won the national title over the No. 1-ranked Western Nebraska Cougars, which entered the tournament 53-1, with its only loss coming from the Cardinals.
