NIC to celebrate opening of Ponderay Center with open house
Community members are encouraged to attend an open house held in honor of the opening of the North Idaho College Ponderay Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7.
The open house will be held at the NIC Ponderay Center, located at 300 Bonner Mall Way in Ponderay.
NIC has operated an outreach center in Sandpoint since the spring of 2000. The center moved to its new location in the Bonner Mall this fall to consolidate classrooms and facilitate future growth with additional space.
“Additional benefits are ample parking, classroom space and office space, a testing/tutoring area plus a computer lab,” said NIC Distance Education Director Candace Wheeler. “Not to mention a high-foot traffic location next to the movie theater. It was a sensible move for this growing outreach center.”
The outreach center in Sandpoint began its first full semester in the fall of 2001 with 189 students enrolled in 13 classes. The center has since grown to include 20 classes ranging from academic to workforce training to GED preparation. A total of 257 students are enrolled in credit classes this fall.
Services offered from the NIC Ponderay Center included admissions, registration, advising, financial aid services, photo identification, placement testing, test proctoring, tutoring and access to a computer lab.
The open house is free and open to the public.
