NIC assistive technology specialist receives award for service to disabled

North Idaho College’s Patrice Wheeler, who serves as the assistive technology access specialist in NIC’s Center for Educational Access, was recently presented an award for her service to individuals with disabilities.
Wheeler received the 2006 Disability Rights Advocate Award from the City of Coeur d’Alene and the Disability Action Center as a professional who provided outstanding service and advocacy for the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Wheeler received the award in the professional category. There was also a category for volunteers. Letters of support for each nominee were collected then reviewed by community members from both the public and private sector as well as community members with disabilities.
The award was presented Jan. 16 at the Coeur d’Alene City Council meeting.
