Four North Idaho College softball players were recently named to Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region teams for the National Junior College Athletics Association Division I.
“This is a big honor, because these players were selected out of all the teams in the western region,” said Head NIC Softball Coach Don Don Williams. A total of three regions nationwide were honored with first and second All-Region teams, including the Midwest Region, the South Region and the West Region.
Second baseman Angie Boardman of Spokane, Wash., was named to the All-West Region first team. Boardman led the NJCAA Division I in RBIs with 62 in the 2006-2007 season.
Outfielder Strohm Fouty of Polson, Mont., was named to the All-Region first team. She was among the NJCAA Division I leaders for stolen bases with a total of 62.
Pitcher Kelcey Cavan of Billings, Mont., was selected to the All-Region second team with 404 strikeouts, or 1.36 per inning.
Third baseman Shay Craig of Boise, Idaho, was named to the All-Region second team. She is fifth among NJCAA Division I leaders with 19 home runs and she had a total of 62 RBIs in the 2006-2007 season.
The NIC softball team placed second at the NJCAA National Tournament this year, clinching the second highest team finish in NIC history and a 46-26 record on the season. Boardman, Fouty and Cavan also earned NJCAA All-Tournament honors.
