Marissa Verduci, a 5-foot-10-inch outside/middle hitter from Mead, Wash., has signed to play volleyball for North Idaho College in 2012.
Verduci is currently playing for Mt. Spokane High School and last year led the team in blocks. Mt. Spokane went undefeated in the Greater Spokane League and finished fourth in the 2010 Washington Interactive Activities Association (WIAA) state championships.
She has played club volleyball for five years, including two years for Spokane Sky, coached by Mark Springer, and last year for Sideout, coached by Jamie Pancho. Sideout represented the Evergreen Region at the 2011 USA Volleyball Nationals.
“NIC’s smaller class sizes and campus location appealed to me right away and after playing with the team, I knew it would be a good fit,” Verduci said. “Coach Kelly and the players were all so encouraging and dedicated to the sport.”
Verduci plans to study exercise science/pre-physical therapy at NIC.
“Marissa is going to be a great addition to the team and someone who is an all-around dominant player,” said NIC Head Volleyball Coach Kandice Kelly. “Marissa will be able to step in right away and play any position the team needs her to play. That is the great thing about Marissa; she is good in the middle, outside, and great on defense. She fits in well with the team and fits my style of play.”
