Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy earned first-place honors Feb. 9 at the Math Counts regional competition held at North Idaho College. Post Falls Middle School took the second-place award and Lakeland Junior High School won third-place at the competition. Math Counts is a national math coaching and competition program for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students created and run by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, and the CNA Insurance Company.
“This is my first year as their coach and I am very proud of their success,” said Virginia Hammond, Charter Academy instructor and Math Counts team coach. “I believe their success is a direct result of what they are receiving in the classroom and the support that they have at home.”
