NIC basketball players earn tournament/regional honors

Several North Idaho College men’s and women’s basketball players recently earned regional/tournament honors following the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 tournament March 8-10 at Salt Lake Community College.

Three women’s basketball players earned All-Region 18 honors. Korina Baker, from Valleyford, Wash., and Julia Salmio, from Vantaa, Finland, were named to the All-Region 18 first team. Katie Buskey, from Maple Valley, Wash., earned second team honors. Baker was also named to the All-Tournament team.

NIC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Chris Carlson earned NJCAA Region 18 Coach of the Year.
The Lady Cardinals lost in the Region 18 tournament semifinals to tournament-host Salt Lake Community College to finish the season 23-6.

Men’s basketball players Michael Middlebrooks, from Seattle, and Antoine Hosley, from Portland, Ore., were named to the All-Region 18 first team. Keon Lewis, from Seattle, earned second team honors and Kaj Sherman, from Mercer Island, Wash., received honorable mention.

Lewis and Hosley were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The men’s basketball team fell to the College of Southern Idaho in the Region 18 title game to end the season with a 24-8 overall record.
