‘Cardinal Heat' NIC softball camp offered in July

Room is still available for players ages 10-18 to sign up for the North Idaho College’s Cardinal Heat position play offensive camp and pitcher’s camp July 23-26 at Finucane Park, located on the northwest corner of Prairie Avenue and Fourth Street in Hayden.

Instructing at the camps will be NIC Head Softball Coach Don Don William, NIC players, Adelphi University Head Coach Paige Smith, Columbia Basin Head Coach Adrian Ochoa and University of Alabama-Birmingham Assistant Coach Holly Kzran.

The camp will be divided into two heats with one specifically for pitching skills and the other a position play/offensive heat camp. The position play offense camp will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the pitcher’s camp will go from 7:45 to 9:45 a.m. each day.

The bonus pitcher’s camp is only available to campers participating in the position play offense camp.

Participants in the pitching heat will receive instruction on pitching mechanics and will work directly with some of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s top pitching coaches. Pitchers will receive speed development, spin work for different pitches, fielding and “the mental game.”

Players participating in the position play/offensive heat camp will receive instruction on infield skills, outfield skills, catching, hitting, short game, base running and more.

Cost is $60 for the pitchers heat camp and $175 for the position play/offensive heat camp and includes a T-shirt and drawstring backpack. For a registration form, go to www.nicathletics.com, and under “Athletic Department” click on the “Camps, Clinics & Special Events” link to find the form.
