NIC's Yang Yang named NJCAA second team All-American

North Idaho College’s volleyball team kill leader Yang Yang was recently named a National Junior College Athletic Association second team All-American.

Yang helped NIC wrap up the 2012 season with an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA Division 1 National Volleyball Tournament in West Plains, Missouri and a 26-8 record for the season. She was 1st Team All-Conference and on the All-Tournament Team at Regionals.

“I can’t even describe in words how great of a player Yang Yang is. We made sure to give her the ball whenever she was in the front row or the back row,” said NIC Head Volleyball Coach Kandice Gregorak. “Yang Yang can do it all. There is no weakness in her game. She will truly be missed and will be irreplaceable. She is even a better person than a volleyball player if that is even possible.”

For the tournament, Yang had 70 kills and had close to triple the total attacking attempts than anyone else on the NIC team. She led the team with 12 blocks and added 58 digs. For the year, Yang was sixth in the nation with 1.46 blocks per set for the year. She had nearly double the amount of kills and total attempts then the next leader on the NIC volleyball team and was third on the team for leading digs.
