NIC recognizes outstanding faculty, staff with annual achievement awards
Several outstanding North Idaho College staff and faculty members were honored with achievement awards during the annual NIC Employee Awards Breakfast May 17.
Faculty Achievement Awards
Shannon Badgett, Registered Nursing Instructor
Shannon Badgett has served as an instructor in the NIC Registered Nursing program since 2002. She has actively participated in many committees within the nursing division and across campus in her time at NIC, and has attending numerous conferences and seminars to keep a pulse on the nursing field. She is the faculty advisor for the college’s chapter of the Idaho Student Nurses’ Association and is certified in nurse education, chemotherapy and biotherapy, basic cardiac life support, and holds Professional Registered Nurse Licensure in Idaho and Washington. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing education from Gonzaga University.
Don Schoesler, Business and Professional Programs Instructor/ATEC Instructor
Don Schoesler teaches courses in human resource management, occupational relations, personal finance, computer applications, and supervision. He has more than 20 years of experience in human resource management and has worked at NIC since 2005. He designed the courses for the Human Resource Assistant program and revised course content to fit an online delivery model. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University in business administration.
Dale Marcy, Chemistry Instructor
Dale Marcy has taught at North Idaho College for 26 years, alternating between teaching chemistry and environmental science. He has contributed to the INBRE intern program and spent countless hours matching students up with internship business partners, tutoring students into careers that match their potential.
Adjunct Faculty Award
Randy Boswell, Athletic Trainer/PE Instructor
Randy Boswell has been the head athletic trainer and physical education instructor at NIC since 1993. He is internationally known and respected in the field of athletics training, having served as athletic trainer at high profile athletics events across the globe such as the U.S. Open Wrestling Tournament in Las Vegas, the Word Cup of Wrestling in Washington, the Wrestling Olympic Preliminary Trials in California, and most recently traveling with the USA wrestling team to Panama, Russia, Brazil and Mexico. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education/athletic training from Point Loma Nazarene College and a master’s degree in physical education/kinesiology from San Diego State University.
Staff Achievement Awards
Kelly Hopkins, Rising Star
Kelly Hopkins of Campus Security has proven that she can adapt to the ever-changing challenges of working in Campus Security, where she can be called to situations that are often unique, with the outcome dictated by the security officer’s ability to de-escalate the emotions and actions of those involved. According to her nomination, she possesses the skill set to assess the situation, apply the required and proper solution technique, and then determine the follow through resolution.
Mindy Patterson, Staff Excellence
NIC Community Relations and Marketing Executive Assistant Mindy Patterson has participated in several major college projects, recently, including strategic planning, executive search committees, accreditation teams, and now the planning of the 80th Birthday Celebration. She has consistently excelled in her position and has made outstanding contributions in the area of service and dedication to NIC.
Heather Erikson, Outstanding Service to the College Community
Assistant Director of Student Development Heather Erikson’s entire focus is on the success of students. She works directly with students to seek ways for excellence and achievement. She engages the community through events and activities she directs throughout the year and she is the perfect embodiment of NIC’s mission and values.
Employees were also recognized with Length of Service Awards.
30-Year Awards: Phil Corlis, Communication, Fine Arts, and Humanities; Victor Duarte, Social and Behavioral Sciences; and Bill Richards, Natural Sciences.
25-Year Awards: Pam Claflin, Office of Instruction; Mary Edwards, ABE/GED; Gerard Mathes, Communication, Fine Arts, and Humanities; Annie McKinlay, Communication, Fine Arts, and Humanities; Justin Van Eaton, Schuler Performing Arts Center; and Peter Zao, Natural Sciences.
20-Year Awards: Rayelle Anderson, Foundation; Randy Boswell, Athletics; Lloyd Duman, English; Diane Rininger, Parking Services/Facilities Operations; and Bill Semmler, Bookstore.
The awards are sponsored by the NIC Foundation and STCU.
