NIC to host first in series of stand up paddleboard races

North Idaho College Outdoor Pursuits and ROW Adventures have teamed up with BIC Paddlesports to offer North Idaho’s first stand up paddle board race series. Stand Up Paddleboard Races at NIC will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 with a 4:30 p.m. registration time at the NIC beach.

The concept for the challenge is simple – participants paddle around a short race course, all using the same BIC SUP 12’6 WING board, which event organizers provide for participants to use. Top finishers advance to a finals and a winner is crowned. There will be divisions for women, men and youth.

“For beginners, the real accomplishment is simply standing up on the board and making it around the buoys,” said race organizer and NIC Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator Jon Totten.

The race costs $5 to enter with division prizes being offered from ROW Adventures, NIC Outdoor Pursuits, and Slate Creek Brewery. No equipment of experience is necessary – just show up and be ready to get wet.
