North Idaho College’s Bryce Leavitt has been named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
“Bryce was a steadying influence after the starting point guard (Will Dorsey) went down with an injury. He played extremely well,” said Al Williams, NIC athletics director.
Sophomore guard Leavitt, from Kennewick, Wash., was also named Most Valuable Player for the Bigfoot Classic tournament in Spokane Dec. 8, where he led the Cardinals to a 95-88 win over Spokane Community College. Leavitt finished that game with 25 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. For the three tournament games he averaged 18.6 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Forward Braxton Tucker, from Tacoma, added 28 points and seven rebounds, and 6-foot 11-inch center Fuquan Niles, from Seattle, had nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Leavitt, Tucker and Niles were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 12-2 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 on the road for the opening of conference play at Utah State University - Eastern. The game will be webcast live for free at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time from http://www.nic.edu/
