NIC to present ‘Sounds of Christmas' concert Dec. 14, 15
North Idaho College will present its “Sounds of Christmas” concert in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.
The concert will feature performances by the NIC Wind Symphony, NIC Cardinal Chorale, NIC Chamber Singers and Cardinal Vocal Jazz. This concert features the audience-favorite Christmas carol sing-along.
The Cardinal Chorale will perform favorites such as “Alleluia Rejoice,” “The Bells,” and “Some Children See Him.” The Chamber Singers will perform “Ave Maria,” “The Huron Carol,” and “Mary Had a Baby,” among others. Cardinal Vocal Jazz will perform “Blue Christmas,” “A Child is Born,” and the traditional French carol “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella.”
The NIC Wind Symphony pieces will include:
“Holiday Bell Carol” arranged by Tom Tucker: A popular theme of the Christmas season based on a Ukrainian folk tune “Shchedryk.” Also arranged by Tucker, “A Christmas Hymn,” based on “Away in the Manger,” will be performed. Tucker is a retired music educator living in Hayden. He studied at Michigan State University and pursued his music career in Germany. His compositions for band have been performed throughout the world.
“Overture to a Winter Celebration” arranged by James M. Stephenson: A flashy overture that captures the holiday spirit and unleashes it all over again with fresh harmonies and punctuating rhythms.
“We Wish You a Mambo Christmas” arranged by Eric Morales: The post-war decade from the late 1940s through the 1950s was a unique era in music history, producing a mambo craze which reached a fevered pitch throughout the Americas. This seasonal mambo will warm everyone up a bit and help get into the festive spirit.
The concert is free and open to the public. For More Information
