North Idaho College will
present its Spring Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at the Boswell
Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.
The NIC Spring Choral
Concert will celebrate the music of the theater. The NIC Cardinal Chorale
and Chamber Singers will present a program of the music of stage and screen. The
Cardinal Chorale will perform medleys from two well-known musicals, Phantom of the Opera and Man of LaMancha. Both of these
musicals won Tony awards for Best Musical in 1988 and 1965, respectively, and
feature some of the most well-known and beloved melodies from Broadway.
The Chamber Singers will
celebrate the European opera tradition by performing Guiseppe Verdi’s “Chorus
of the Hebrew Slaves” or “Va, pensiero” from the opera, Nabucco. They
will also perform arrangements of the “Evening Prayer” from Humperdinck’s Hansel
and Gretl and the “William Tell Overture” by Rossini.
From the screen, the
Cardinal Chorale will perform arrangements of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from
the ageless classic The Wizard of Oz and “Pure Imagination” from the children’s
movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. “Song of the Lonely
Mountain” from The Hobbit-An Unexpected Journey will round out this
representation of screen music.
The concert is
free and open to the public.
