Biography

Zlata has worked in the field of criminal justice since 2007. After receiving her B. A. in Political Science, Zlata entered the field of Criminal Justice as a detention officer in a juvenile detention center and continued her academic career while working full time. Zlata earned her first Master of Arts (M.A.) from the University of Idaho (U of I) in Political Science, balancing life as a working professional in banking and a full-time student.

Her passion for juvenile justice and restorative practices led her to a position as a juvenile probation officer where she gained knowledge and experience working with clients, courts, community programs, and other government agencies. Zlata continued to follow her love of learning and earned a second Master of Science (M.S.) degree from U of I in Adult Organizational Learning and Leadership and holds a certificate in Human Resources Development. Her skills in Organizational Leadership naturally called her to her current position with the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) as the District 1 and 2 Liaison. Zlata works full time facilitating communication and collaboration between IDJC and community stakeholders such as legislators, elected officials, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, juvenile corrections, education professionals, and advocacy groups in Idaho’s ten northern counties.

When Zlata is not teaching or working, she volunteers with the Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho. In her spare time, Zlata can be found spending time with her husband, Ragdoll Cat Dexter, and Pembroke Welsh Corgi Enzo.
