Mother of NIC veteran scholarship namesake donates
Pictured are NIC Alumni Relations Coordinator Pamela Noah (left) and Teresa Hart, the mother of US Army Specialist Nicholas “Nick” Newby. The Beyers-Newby Veterans Scholarship was established in honor of Newby and US Army Specialist Nathan R. Beyers, who both died in combat in 2011 in Baghdad, Iraq.
The mother of U.S.
Army Specialist Nicholas “Nick” Newby, who was killed in Iraq in 2011 along
with Specialist Nathan Beyers, has made a donation to a scholarship named after
the two former North Idaho College students that raises it to the endowment
level.
Theresa Hart, Newby’s mother, recently presented the donation to the NIC Foundation for the Beyers-Newby Veterans Scholarship. The endowment will generate scholarship awards in perpetuity to provide an extra measure of support that ensures all veterans have access to an excellent education at NIC.
During the past four years, the NIC Veterans Club has raised funds to grow the scholarship. Club members held raffles, T-shirt sales and supported the local VFW Poppy Drive. The NIC Veterans Club continues to support similar efforts to assist veterans with their education.
